Better renewable energy sources integration and an increase of Eastern European generation capacity efficiency
PPC Insulators announced successful installation of its products at the 500 kV DC Montenegro-Italy HVDC link. Supporting one of the most important projects in the region aimed at increasing renewable energy use and greater generation capacity efficiency, PPC Insulators has delivered porcelain insulators for the first interconnection between Italy and the Balkans.
The undersea connection between Italy and Montenegro is the first Trans-Balkan electricity corridor of the 400 kV AC, connecting Serbia, Bosnia and Montenegro with the European Union grid. The interconnection of Italian and Balkan power systems will allow highly efficient electricity generation aimed at increasing renewable energy production in the region, required by the European Union.
PPC porcelain post insulators for both bus bar and disconnector applications are supporting the new 1200 MW HVDC subsea cable interconnection line between the newly built converter stations at Cepagatti (Italy) and Kotor (Montenegro), being designed and constructed by Toshiba T&D Europe as HVDC power conversion system contractor in both countries.

PPC post insulators were designed with a special shed to meet coastal environmental requirements to ensure continuous reliable power supply to this approximately 445 km long electricity bridge, which is to start the operation by the end of 2018.
